Locution is an emotionally rich piece that depicts many hurtful works/phrases people have said to me throughout the years. This was very therapeutic for me to do and reminds me that none of those words define me, in fact, here I am using them to make art.

Novo

Acrylic on Canvas

32 × 61 cm

“Novo”, meaning “new“ in Latin.

This piece is a painted variation of my piece, “Anew“, capturing the lower wing of the original artwork.

The butterfly has always been very symbolic to me. This work captures me right now, as a 20-year-old woman, learning to spread my wings and open myself up to the world, but with darker shades that depict some life experience and a hesitancy; the modern world is a scary place!

What happens when an important person in your life doesn’t allow you a voice? Pent up fury, that’s what. The word “intolerant” – which this important person labelled me with – has long lurked in the back of my mind; now it’s upfront, giving me the voice that I didn’t have in the moment.

Tidal

Textured Acrylic on Canvas

91 x 91 cm

This piece is one of the first ones to make me realise that I’m falling in love with painting.

I wanted to do a piece inspired by my happy place, Wye River, and feauring texture paste.

I wanted to capture the raw, sometimes intense nature of waves while highlighting organic movements and evoking a sense of calm. All things I feel when I’m at the beach.
